Action:

PARK LIGHTING PROJECT

Last year I received a call from a resident who backs Sid Buckwold Park.  He was wondering if we could get some lighting around the tennis courts so that people could play longer into the evening, even with the shortened fall days.  This prompted a closer look at the park and we were dismayed to realize that our park is severely under-lighted.  We currently have only one path of lights through the park which run from the back of Roland Michener School to the alley backing Laval.  And in case you haven’t taken a walk through our park recently let me remind you of something… it is a VERY large park… and it is mostly in darkness.

So, with the help of a grant or two and lots of future fundraising, we have decided to rectify this problem.  We hope to make our park a safer place to be and to encourage more use of our walking paths and fields all year long by adding approximately 11 lights to one of the paths.  We are proposing the addition of the lights to the path that backs Waterloo and Laval and runs from McKercher Drive to the area behind St Augustine School.

We have been quoted approximately $44,000 for this project and expect it to be at least a year before we will begin to put any lights up.

As you can see, it is not a small task we are undertaking, and I encourage each of you to visit our website regularly as we will be posting our project timeline and progress on the site, as well as upcoming fundraising events.  And if any of you have questions or can help us with an item to donate for our fall raffle at our ECP Community Steak Night fundraiser, we would appreciate hearing from you.  As well, I wanted to make you aware that we will be coming door-to-door throughout the spring and/or summer to collect donations.  Please help us to make our park a safer place to be and if you have any questions, please contact Eric.  Thank you!
